The Delaware R/C Club #197 is an AMA Gold Leader club located within Lums Pond State Park in Kirkwood, Delaware. The club was established back in the 50's and currently has over 115 members.
The club has two grass runways: The main runway is for Fixed-wing airplanes (all sizes/engine types) on the east end of the site and runs north to south. The second runway is for Helis, drones, and micros located on the north end of the site and runs east to west. The club has a covered pavilion, porta-potties, picnic tables, startup benches, pilot stations, and a large parking area.
The club is well known in the flying community for its annual "Warbirds & Classics over Delaware" that takes place every July. This year was their 33rd holding of the event which registered 83 pilots flying a variety of aircraft from prop-driven WWI biplanes to turbine powered fighter jets. Make sure to mark your calendar for next year's event on July 8th thru the 11th. You can find a link to a great photo gallery from this event by Sam Winder at the bottom of this post.
Another annual event for the club is their "Delaware R/C Flea Market" typically held every the beginning of November at the Delaware City Fire Company.
From the club's 1957 Delaware R/C Club Constitution:
Article I. Purpose - The purpose of the club is the formation of a limited group of enthusiasts interested in radio control and the exchange of pertinent ideas.
