Q. How do I submit a Sanction request online?
A. Sanction requests may be submitted online using your 鈥淓vent Sanction鈥 portal (only available to Contest Directors (CD) or Event Managers (EM) or via the US Mail. A guide on Creating an online sanction may be found on the AMA website at www.modelaircraft.org/events/sanctions.
Q. Who is my District Event Sanction Coordinator?
A. This information can be found on the AMA website at http://www.modelaircraft.org/events/sanctionedeventcoordinators.aspx
Q. Why would I need additional insurance for a sanctioned event?
A. The AMA sanction event certificate is the normal means of providing proof of $2.5 million of insurance coverage for the event sponsor. If you need to extend this coverage to land owners or organizations e.g. flying site owners, government agencies, other organizations etc, whose property will be used for the event you may obtain an Additional Insurance Certificate to provide additional insurance to these people. In cases where the flying site owner is already issued a Certificate of Insurance under a club charter, no further application is necessary, any club activity including the Sanctioned Event is automatically covered.
Q. What are the reasons for sanctioning?
A. #1 Sanctioning offers protected draw area and date protection for like events.
#2 To offer chartered and non-chartered clubs an additional insurance to those who may decide to fly in an area other than what is already listed in the AMA's club records as their club flying field, or additional sponsors who may require it for the particular event.
#3--To offer a written text listing advertisement in the Sanctioned Event Calendar section of Model Aviation Magazine. (Subject to lead time requirements).
Q. What is the deadline for the magazine and what is the lead time?
A. The 14th of every month. 90 (ninety) days prior to the event for at least 1 (one) listing in the magazine.
Q. How do I submit my event reports?
A. As the Contest Director/Event Manager, it is a requirement to complete post-event reports and submit them via email to competition@modelaircraft.org. You can obtain your Contest/Event Package here.
Q. What or who is the FAI?
A. FAI stands for Federation Aeronautique Internationale, FAI is the world sanctioning body for sport aviation. This includes full size aircraft and models. The US participation in World Championship events is under the auspices of the FAI and uses the rules put forth in the FAI Sporting Code (rule book for international competitions).
