The Foothill Flyers #5115 is a Bronze Leader club located in Greer, South Carolina. It was established in 2016 and has an aviation friendly relationship with Sloan Ultralight Airport. One of the original board members came across this grass strip runway and spoke with the airport owner to ask if they could rent space for a new flying club. An agreement was made and both parties enjoy sharing the airspace together, providing an excellent space for full scale and recreational aircraft to enjoy.
The club has a little over 30 active members but earned their AMA Bronze Leader status last year. They have an annual Fun Fly event every September that usually brings 40-50 guests to enjoy the festivities. Flyers for the event are posted around the community and bring in a lot of young pilots. Last year they had a balsa glider build & fly contest where youth were invited on the runway to see who could toss a glider the farthest. The club president says the kids enjoy it and gives them a chance to view a variety of model aircraft.
The club maintains an 800' strip of the grass runway using their own mowing equipment. The club has a primitive site (no water, electricity), but a new metal shade was installed a few years ago to allow members to stay out of the sun. There are several airplane stands for pilots to use and most electric flyers tend to bring their own generators to charge batteries and share electricity with other members.
