Heart of Texas Miniature Aircraft Club (HOTMAC) #613 is a Gold Leader Club with over 150 members located on U.S. Corps of Engineers property at Lake Waco in Waco, Texas. The club flew at two other locations (Cameron Park and James Connally AFB) before establishing its current location in 1966. In 2021 the City of Waco and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers entered into a 25-year lease agreement for the 40-acre flying site with HOTMAC signing a 5-year 'Use Agreement' with the City of Waco.
The current field began with a grass runway, then a 400’ paved asphalt in 1969. With runway additions in 1999 the runway length is now 800’ x 80’. Other amenities include a small air-conditioned club house with a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, cooking range and sinks. The club has a paved parking lot with 18 RV hookups (power only) and grass overflow parking. There are men’s and women’s enclosed outdoor toilets and an additional handicapped porta-potty. Covered pit shelters of 220’ are paved and equipped with electrical charging outlets. Outside the clubhouse is a paved 28’ x 28’ covered area with several picnic tables for use by members and guests.
In 2024 HOTMAC applied for a received a Take Off and Grow (TAG) grant. The grant helped HOTMAC host Come Fly With Me 2024, an event celebrating National Model Aviation Day. The event was a great success with 18 people of all ages completing introductory flights and HOTMAC recruiting several new members.
Each June, HOTMAC hosts a BIG BIRD Fly In (Fri and Sat before Father’s Day) and in September hosted its 42nd annual Greater Southwest Jet Rally (Thurs, Fri and Sat after Labor Day) which is one of the longest running Jet event in the U.S. On the First Saturday in May, HOTMAC host the SERTOMA kite fest (a service organization for the hearing impaired). The First Saturday in December HOTMAC hosts an annual Toys for Tots program providing thousands of dollars worth of toys from their efforts.
