The Capital Area Radio Drone Squad (CARDS) #353 is the AMA Club of the Month for March 2025. CARDS is located in Lansing, Michigan and an AMA Gold Leader Club. CARDS was established in 1970 and boasts the largest model aircraft runway in the state of Michigan.
The club has two runways. The East/West grass runway is 1000' x 150' and the North/South runway is 500' x 150' with a recent addition of a 150' Geotex fabric runway. The grass runways and parking areas are very well maintained and are mowed on a regular basis by the CARDS ground crew. Other amenities include basic restroom facilities, ample startup stations & workbenches, covered sitting area around the club house, as well as convenient parking directly next to the pit area.
The club hosts many events and their 2024 Midwest Ultimate Fun Fly (MUFF) was featured in the November 2024 issue of Model Aviation magazine. Other events include: Warbirds & Classics (June), Aces & Pioneers (July), and an Electric Fly-In (Aug). The club is active with the community and hosts Community Model Aviation Day & Student Night inviting the public out to their field for flight training. They have also sponsored a charity fun-fly to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association.
During the winter months, several club members enjoy indoor flying at the local Lansing City Arena to keep their flying skills honed when the warmer spring weather arrives.
