The Silver Creek Aeromodelers #5516 is the AMA Club of the Month for May 2025. The club was developed from the passion of its club president, Lou Carlassara, and sits on land a few hundred yards from Silver Creek, a stream in Snowflake, Arizona.
The club originated in October of 2021 and is the home for 20+ aviation modelers. Their main dirt runway is 900' x 100' running east/west. They have a secondary, north/south runway that is 800' x 50'. Last year, the club installed a brand new club house (see photo gallery) that also houses a solar charging system for members. The facility includes a large parking area, start up benches, spectator area, refrigerator, outdoor grill, and a small fire pit "...for those chilly winter mornings.".
Silver Creek Aeromodelers has hosted two Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Build & Fly programs at their club. Young student pilots were sponsored by a local EAA chapter (586) to build & fly model airplanes out at the flying site. Their first year had 12 students and 15 the following year. You can learn more about this program by visiting . This is a great opportunity to get more junior members involved in your AMA club.
The Snowflake Chamber of Commerce came out last year for a ribbon cutting, introducing the club and new clubhouse to the community. The club hosts an annual Fun Fly & Swap Meet, a Warbird/Classic Fly-In, and a fundraiser Fun Fly.
The runway may be packed dirt in the desert sand, but it appears these club members are having a wonderful time out there in Arizona. Congratulations!
